Local Attractions around the Big Canoe Area

Gibbs Gardens – One of the premier and certainly largest gardens in the United States is opening March 1st about five miles from Big Canoe in Marble Hill, Georgia. Gibbs Gardens has been thirty five years in the making and features 225 acres of 16 separate gardens. North Georgia Premium Outlet Mall – Located in Dawsonville on Highway 53 and 400, there is something for everyone here with over 140 stores. Find impressive savings at Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Coach, Cole Haan, Gap Outlet, J.Crew, Kenneth Cole, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Restoration Hardware, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Williams-Sonoma and more.

Amicalola Falls State Park – Amicalola Falls is a short drive north of Big Canoe and is well worth a day of hiking and lunch in the restaurant. The falls are spectacular and the park offers twelve miles of hiking trails. This is a great place for a family outing.

Dahlonega, Georgia – Dahlonega was home of the first US gold rush in 1828. Located about an hour northeast of Big Canoe, Dahlonega offers a number of restaurants, bars, shopping and year around events. It has become a center for performance and visual arts for the north Georgia mountains. Be sure and eat at the historic Smith House for family style Southern food.

Blue Ridge, Georgia – Blue Ridge is a delightful mountain town located about an hour and a half north of Big Canoe up highway 515 or 52 to 515. The downtown area is well worth a trip for shopping and restaurants. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is located in the historic Railroad Depot downtown and is a great 3 ½ hour trip along the Toccoa River, Some of the best trout fishing in Georgia is in the Taccoa River. Burt’s Pumpkin Farm – This is a fall must for pumpkins, pumpkin pie, and hay ride, and is a north Georgia mountain institution. It’s only about thirty minutes north of Big Canoe and our grandchildren can’t wait to go every year.

Ellijay Apple Orchards – Ellijay Apple Orchards are the best apples in Georgia and only located about an hour from Big Canoe on highway 52 and 515.

Big Canoe Dining

We are proud of the new Big Canoe Clubhouse at Lake Sconti with three different restaurants:

BLACK BEAR PUB – A casual bar restaurant with large screen TVs and a lake view with the same menu as Mountains Grille.

DUFFERS – The golf course half-way house offering hot dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches that you can eat outside on picnic tables overlooking the lake.
The Outdoor Pavillion offers a casual menu for seating outside under cover next to the Black Bear Pub overlooking the lake.

HOME – An excellent new farm to table dinner restaurant outside the north gate on Steve Tate Road, 770 893-3389.

Marble Hill Dining

FORNO ITALIAN RESTAURANT – This Italian restaurant is located in the Foothills Shopping Center. They have great pizzas and Italian dishes in a casual family atmosphere. You can call them at 770 894-4246.

FUEGO – This new Mexican restaurant is now located in Foothills Shopping Center. It has great food and ambiance. It is a good place for larger groups or kids at reasonable prices. You can make reservations at 706 268-1686

MARY’S – A breakfast and lunch café located in the IGA Shopping Center Brownstone building serves breakfast sandwiches, fantastic fresh baked cinnamon bun, lunch sandwiches, freshly baked breads, cookies and desserts. They also cater the Gibbs Gardens café.

Jasper Dining

61 MAIN – This Family to Table restaurant located on Main Street in Jasper specializes in Southern comfort food from local farm produce and meats. We highly recommend having lunch and they are open a few nights a week. Please call first at 706 253-7289.

WOODBRIDGE INN – This Restaurant and Inn in Jasper offers American and European cuisine and has some great German dishes. The atmosphere is upscale and dining experience is most enjoyable. Call for reservations at 706 253-6293.
